PRODUCT CARE

PRODUCT CARE

Jonathan Franc stands behind each of our pieces and produces stylish products with the highest standards in quality materials and construction.    Our products our constructed to minimize the effects that environmental changes can have on a natural product.   However, as with all fine furniture, care must be taken to maintain it.  Doing so will keep your Jonathan Franc fine furniture for generations to come.

ACRYLIC FURNTIURE

As with all fine furniture, it is important to handle with care and to use the proper cleaning materials to keep your acrylic furniture looking beautiful.   We recommend Novus Plastic Polish No. 1.   When cleaning, wipe gently with a microfiber cloth, and always apply the cleaner to the acrylic, not the cloth.    It is important to always use a clean cloth for polishing your acrylic, as when the polish dries it can create abrasive particles that might scratch.   Do not use household window cleaners or solvents, or even paper towels on your acrylic furniture, as this will damage the finish.  Like fine wood surfaces, an acrylic surface can scratch.  Should your acrylic furniture become scratched, we recommend Novus Fine Scratch Remover No. 2 or Novus Heavy Scratch Remover No. 3.  It is also recommended to keep acrylic surfaces away from excess heat or open flame.  Novus products may be purchased directly from their website at www.novuspolish.com.

SHAGREEN FURNITURE

SHAGREEN FURNITURE

Our Shagreen is applied with the same techniques used by Parisian Artisans from the 1920’s and 1940’s.   Shagreen should be kept dust free, and to do so use a dry microfiber cloth.  Shagreen should not require cleaning or maintenance other than dusting.  As with other luxury hides and leather, spills should be blotted up immediately with a damp cloth.  Do not place your furniture in areas of direct sun exposure as this could fade or discolor your Shagreen finish.   In areas of extreme dryness, continuous air-conditioning, or high heat, we recommend the use of humidifiers to better maintain the environment and lessen the potential of changes or movement.

WOOD FURNITURE

Wood is a very complex and beautiful natural product.   It varies in grain and pattern so that every piece of furniture is unique.   Being a natural product, wood reacts to changes in temperature and humidity.   Even the most thorough kiln drying or conditioning will not completely prevent expansion and contraction changes.   Our products our constructed to minimize the effects these environmental changes can have on a natural product.  However, in areas of extreme dryness, continuous air-conditioning, or high heat, we recommend the use of humidifiers to better maintain the environment and lessen the impact of these changes. Do not place furniture too close to air conditioning or heating outlets, or in areas of direct sun exposure as this could fade, discolor, or damage your finish.  To maintain your fine wood furniture surface, we recommend dusting with a clean, dry microfiber cloth or anti-static dust cloth.  Spills should be cleaned immediately with a damp microfiber cloth, and then blotted until dry.  For High-Gloss or Lacquer finishes, dusting or cleaning with a dry microfiber cloth should adequately maintain the piece.  For satin or natural wood finishes, a light application of Bees Wax furniture wax along the grain every 6-9 months will keep your product nicely conditioned.  Make sure to use only a small amount of polish and apply in the direction of the grain.   If too much polish is applied a cloudy effect can appear in your finish, which is moisture that has been trapped within the wax.   Always use a coaster under drinks, felt the bottoms of vases and potted plants, and use trivets underneath any hot or very cold dishes.   Leather desktops should be cleaned with a damp cloth, dried, and then lightly waxed with a quality leather polish.   Most commercial leather conditioners are suitable for this purpose.

METAL FURNITURE

Jonathan Franc takes great care to protect our beautiful Brass, Bronze, Nickel and Stainless Steel finishes by adding a clear coating of lacquer to maintain the patina and prevent it from further darkening or requiring polishing.   Minimal maintenance is needed other than dusting with a microfiber cloth.
